News Announcements: David Adair, MD presents at BCBS Infant Mortality Best Practices Forum
September 9th, 2011

On August 31, 2011, the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee Health Foundation held a conference in Nashville entitled “Infant Mortality Best Practices Forum,” where the most successful programs funded by the Foundation were showcased.  Dr. David Adair, CEO of Regional Obstetrical Consultants was asked to present information regarding ROC’s highly successful STORC telemedicine program (Solutions to Obstetrics in Rural Counties).  Initially funded by the Foundation in  2009, STORC opened its first rural telemedicine clinic in Tullahoma, Tennessee in April 2009, and has since grown to include 9 active sites in Tennessee, Georgia and North Carolina, with 2 more sites slated to open within the next two months.  STORC has served over 700 patients since inception, 88% of whom have been able to deliver in their own local hospital despite their high risk pregnancy diagnosis.  Additionally, only 7% of births among STORC patients have required a NICU stay, which is a very favorable outcome considering the high risk population served.  Dr. Adair’s presentation was very well received by the forum participants, particularly as he described how the great state of Tennessee was originally founded by pioneers such as Davy Crocket, who walked the territory with little more than a backpack, and today, STORC is able to cover this same territory with the latest in medical technology in a backpack as well.  To find out if there is a STORC clinic near you, check the “LOCATIONS” tab here on our site.
