News Announcements: David Adair, MD presents at BCBS Infant Mortality Best Practices Forum
September 9th, 2011 9:27 AM
On August 31, 2011, the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee Health Foundation held a conference in Nashville entitled “Infant Mortality Best Practices Forum,” where the most successful programs funded by the Foundation were showcased. Dr. David Adair, CEO of Regional Obstetrical Consultants was asked to present information regarding ROC’s highly successful STORC telemedicine program (Solutions to Obstetrics in Rural Counties). Initially funded by the Foundation in 2009, STORC opened its first rural telemedicine clinic in Tullahoma, Tennessee in April 2009, and has since grown to include 9 active sites in Tennessee, Georgia and North Carolina, with 2 more sites slated to open within the next two months. STORC has served over 700 patients since inception, 88% of whom have been able to deliver in their own local hospital despite their high risk pregnancy diagnosis. Additionally, only 7% of births among STORC patients have required a NICU stay, which is a very favorable outcome considering the high risk population served. Dr. Adair’s presentation was very well received by the forum participants, particularly as he described how the great state of Tennessee was originally founded by pioneers such as Davy Crocket, who walked the territory with little more than a backpack, and today, STORC is able to cover this same territory with the latest in medical technology in a backpack as well. To find out if there is a STORC clinic near you, check the “LOCATIONS” tab here on our site.

News Announcements: Electronic Medical Records
January 31st, 2011 3:18 PM
As you read in the Recent News section, ROC is converting from paper
medical charts to a new electronic medical record system. This is a great new system that will give us the ability to better track patient care from the minute we are contacted for an appointment. It will provide your referring obstetrician with more information about your care and in a more timely manner, so there can be better coordination of care. And it will comply with new federal standards that will become effective in 2015 (we’re way ahead of the curve!) and are designed to keep healthcare costs down and
healthcare quality up.
As with any transition to a new system, we suspect there will be “bumps” in the road, and if you encounter a doctor, nurse, or billing officer looking at a computer screen with a puzzled look, just say, “that must be the new EMR.”
The main difference patients will see will be e-prescribing. The days of paper prescription forms being handed to you are over. Instead, when a doctor prescribes a medicine for you, it will be electronically transmitted to the pharmacy you designate. No paper forms, no waiting in line. And much better record keeping.

News Announcements: Welcome
January 31st, 2011 3:12 PM
Welcome to our new website and to this new “blog.” In this blog, we hope to informally discuss with our patients and friends topics of interest and solicit your input – ideas, suggestions, and even complaints. As you can see, we’ve updated our website, making it more visually friendly and adding a number of new features and informational sections. We’ll continue to grow the site with the goal of making it the main portal to ROC for our patients.
One thing you’ll notice is that new patients are now able to fill out all their paperwork online and submit it with a click of the “submit” button. That will save you from having to print out forms, fill them out manually, and bring them into the office. It will enable us to process the information into our system prior to your visit, thus saving you and us time. There will be other features added as we move forward, and of course, we’d like your feedback: What features and pages are helpful, what ones are not helpful?
What new features can we add? What pitfalls do we need to avoid? Let us know.
